Canik Race Gun - Kanik drops the hanger after another. I followed Canic to see what would happen next. I recently purchased a Canik TP9 Elite Combat and am very happy with its performance. The latest thing from Canik to cross my path is the new SFx Rival 9mm, which is today's topic.

Canik Race Gun
This competitor is being marketed as an IDPA competition rifle, and its size and weight meet the standards of many competition rifles. The Challenger carries all the features of its Canik siblings, including an ambi-slide release on the front, retractable and extendable magazine release, flat trigger shoe, bottom trigger guard, magwell flare, and Picatinny accessory rail. In addition to these features, the Rival has deep cut slides and a smooth column.

Like most of the TP9 family, it also has a variety of baseplates and optically ready options. All of this is available in two Cerakote color schemes - my gold counterpart is grey.
As usual with Canik, the tool comes in a hard plastic box with cleaning and maintenance tools. It also comes with an 18-round magazine along with a Kydex holster and sare magazine pouch.

My first thoughts on Champion were good. He looks busy. But I immediately wanted to know if the busy look would fit my schedule.
Review: Canik Mete Sft And Sfx
As expected, the Rival was pretty much the same as the old TP9 model I had. This is a good thing in my opinion, as both pistols feel great in the hand and offer good control. I carefully removed the Cerakote from one of the Caniks all the time while driving on the side of firing and loading the target. After all, the contestant felt like an old friend. My fingers always landed on all the controls and adjusted, but it didn't take long to notice a few things.
The first feature is the fuzzy slide distribution. I think, maybe, the competitor uses a stronger spring because the slide has more resistance than mine. This has translated more and more into trying to annoy me, but that's it.
I also felt that the extended flame was better than the one on the large Canik. This made reloading easier than I thought. Magazines slide into place effortlessly. The trigger also felt great, which is my general experience with this high-end Canik pistol.

Canik Usa Debuts The Sfx Rival Pistol Series
While I was on the firing line with the Champion, I thought it would be a good idea to compare it to its more popular sibling, the TP9 EC. Then we went to town and took the gun to the door. The first order of business was to adjust the Holosun red dot to get accurate results, and it didn't take long. In less time than it takes to get the magazine out, I'm hitting my nail polish.
Going back and forth between the Rival and the Elite Combat, it didn't take long to feel and see the difference between the two guns. The reasons were much the same as they thought. They look alike in everything except their color. The opponent's grip area is relatively generous, allowing for more engagement and manipulation.

Other magnetic releases in the TP9 family seem reliable and easy to control. The competitor shared this quality, but it felt a little more difficult than others. Maybe it's just because it's new and undecorated. The slide release levers on both sides of the frame felt stiffer than other TP9s I've shot.

Again, after firing a few magazines through the gun, it seemed to come loose. The only noticeable improvement I feel over the rival is its hot springs. It took an unusual amount of time to adjust the blind magazine to the rifle. I quickly mastered speed and agility. This was a real improvement over EC, and not insignificant.
Competitors drove the expensive 124 rifle and had no failures or malfunctions during shooting, except for a few confirmed gun malfunctions. The blue-grey Canik Rival finish doesn't shine in the afternoon sun, giving way to a burnt black shade.
The whole experience of shooting a rival was remarkable. It provided flawless performance and predictable, accurate hits. The quality and smoothness of this pistol is outstanding, and the most versatile pistol I've played with in years. The rough set of slides along with the text of the text adds a bit of "noise" to the image of the gun, but for me it just works. The pistol's ease of reloading, large grip-suppressed stock, smooth trigger, and short recoil all make this pistol feel like a true competitor.
Buying a rival isn't a guaranteed shot at becoming the next John Wick. However, when it comes to price, it won't kill you either. An adjustable grip background, additional magazine and some additional sight options are also worth mentioning. The modularity of the magic release buttons also helps with shooter compatibility.

The Holosun 507 was a good companion for this pistol. I've used a lot of slide mounted optics now and this seems to be the best choice not only for the adversary, but for the pistol as well. A variety of mounting plates come with the Rival to allow you to mount the optics of your choice.

Chances are, there are a few things that would change about Champion. At first, it seems like a missed opportunity to match the barrel to the best slide cut. Not only would this add to the mall-ninja, but it would have helped a little in recovery. For a fully loaded gun the Champion seemed a little taller than I expected from the slide. Even the frontline subsidizers were helping. The melted barrel itself looked good, and hopefully the weight reduction will also reduce scratches.
For a rifle aimed at the competitive shooter, I feel it completely beats out many of the features of the competition. It's cheap, but you feel like you're getting more for your money. Many accessories come as soon as you get into them, and the included features allow many gun owners to do what they love most - customize their guns.
