I've reviewed a lot of 9mm pistols lately, and last month I posted here the best 9mm pistols in five categories. But some people ask about my list of recommended and reliable 9mm pistols under $300. It is highly reliable and serves as personal protection. So I researched, shot, and tried some basic "no frills and extra features" pistols and came up with a list of the best priced 9mm pistols under $300. It doesn't "hurt your wallet" and provides basic features with plenty of firepower for self-defense.There are a few 9mms under $300, but given my 10 criteria, accuracy, reliability I would only recommend those that I have no doubts about the quality and value for the price paid.Keep in mind, I am reviewing guns worth buying for under $300 after purchase.Other Pay attention to what my instructor told me, what I learned from my research, and comments from people in the military and law enforcement that I respect.Anyway, of course, my budget list is very subjective. subjective, your list is biased to your experience, subjective opinion, and criteria. One of my finalists is Ruger Security-9, and this is my evaluation and field testing.

Ruger's Safety-9 pistol uses the same reliable "safe-action" system as Ruger's successful LCP II, with a crisp, short, soft trigger. The Ruger Security-9 system uses an internal covered hammer rather than a striker-operated bar, making racking the slide easier. Pre-cock, hammer firing double action only action. For safety, the Ruger Security-9 has a trigger safety, a manual thumb safety, and a (recessed) hammer grip that prevents the gun from firing unless the trigger is depressed.Browning to tilt the barrel It has type lockup. This sturdily built value gun has features typically found in much more expensive guns and doesn't feel "cheap." The hammer is partially cocked back by the rearward movement of the slide, similar to the striker in a striker-fired pistol. Pulling the trigger completes the hammer's cocking cycle and fires the gun. As a result, although it is a double action pistol, it achieves a single action type trigger feel with a short reset point and sharpness.

This allows us to see a similarity to the size and dimensions of the popular and more expensive Glock 19 listed here.Next, the 10 criteria and field test results and performance relative to the criteria and characteristics rating. You can compare its features and ratings to my top 21 Concealed Carry pistols in my book Concealed Carry and Handgun Essentials. You can add or subtract to my criteria to suit your needs and preferences.I shot the budget Security-9 and compared it element by element to other quality compact 9mms I was very concerned to see if it really ranked among my top compact concealed-carry pistols, and whether I would even recommend it as a budget gun.
We thank Ruger for lending us this pistol for testing and evaluation purposes. Please know that I do not receive their salary. I was not paid by them for this article, nor was I influenced to say anything specific about guns. I want to be honest and open with my opinions and thoughts on how to look at guns to help people from the bottom of my heart.Specifically I wanted to know how accurate it is right out of the box with no modifications How heavy was her trigger press? Is the trigger smooth and crisp? What about reset distance for follow-up shots? Can you trust me? What are its advantages, disadvantages, and special features? Are there any issues or concerns that prevent you from carrying this weapon? What changes about this gun? Is this the recommended gun for concealed carry and home defense?

So I've grouped them together in the final Other Criteria. I have to admit that all weapon selection decisions involve compromises, but I really hope that all criteria are met. A total score of 10 was assigned to each of the 10 criteria for a total score of 100. You can certainly add your criteria, additional preferences, or subtract mine.

High-quality Sig Sauer Elite V-Crown JHP ammunition was used in 115, 124, and 147-grain weights, with some at 115 to determine how well the gun cycled and handled various loads. I used it in grain FMJ. And about 50-60 rounds of the American Eagle 115 round FMJ I purchased. I only shot about 200 rounds total to evaluate this gun. I wanted to determine if it would get the job done at 10 yards as a budget gun without the "whistle and bells"... I had the information I needed after shooting. Below are my ratings for each of the 10 criteria of Security-9 for concealed carry purposes.I wanted to specifically test its reliability and accuracy. Put the gun through its paces and carefully check damage, downtime, and performance with JHP ammo and FMJ rounds. Thanks to Sig Sauer for providing 150 rounds of various Elite Performance ammunition for Safety-9 testing and evaluation.
The 9mm Ruger Security-9 has great ergonomics. The slim grip felt comfortable in the hands of me, my wife, and her two other teachers. It was comfortable and had a shallow bore shaft that reduced felt recoil and helped prevent muzzle flip. My little finger wasn't hanging under the 15-round magazine when I picked it up—no little finger hanging. And in both, the included metal 15-round magazine provided extra rounds and peace of mind. The tilt and rounded corners of the grip were perfect for me and just right. All controls were easily accessible. The slide was easy for my wife and I to rack up, removing the felt and adding the jaws was very manageable, my wife also liked her ergonomics and shooting.
What I didn't like is how small and stiff the manual is.
