ruger handguns 45

Ruger Handguns 45 - Early this year we reviewed the new Ruger America Pistol for the 9x19mm NATO cartridge. I found it extremely easy to fire and burn on recoil. It felt very comfortable in my hands and I was eager to try the 45 ACP version as soon as I could get my hands on one. Since then, I've shot a few more excellent versions at SHOT Media Day, and recently received a 45 ACP version here for review.

As expected, the 45 version of the American Pistol is a bit larger than the 9mm version, but only minimally so. The 45 version does not come with the small grip module, only the medium and large modules. The magazines are double stacked but not too wide and hold ten 45 ACP cartridges. The 45 version is only slightly longer and only an ounce heavier than its little 9mm sister and is just as easy to handle and fire as the 9mm pistol.

I won't go into all the details of US 45, as that would be retreading the same ground, and instead refer you to the review on the 1st. Jan on the 9mm pistol for details. The short version is that the 45 American is as good as the 9mm pistol, as easy to shoot as the 9mm pistol, and with this one example, slightly more accurate than the 9mm pistol, groups my favorite handloads in just above one. inches, arm and rest at twenty-five yards. At first I thought it was a fluke, but the American gun would do it again and again as long as I did my part. The largest group fired just over three inches, but that ammunition didn't match velocity either. Live ammunition mostly grouped in two and a half inch ranges.

Model 1895 Trapper

Key specifications for the US 45 Pistol are listed in the chart below. Weight is in ounces and includes the empty magazine. Linear dimensions are given in inches. Trigger pull is expressed in pounds of resistance, measured with my Lyman digital trigger pull scale and confirmed with my Timney mechanical trigger pull scale. Includes sight height and magazine bottom and magazine in place. Maximum grip width is measured across the palm of the grip frame, with the average grip module installed. The maximum width is measured across the ambidextrous zipper handle. The trigger range with the medium grip module is installed.

I tested your speed with my chronograph set ten feet from the muzzle, with an air temperature of thirty-nine degrees Fahrenheit and a relative humidity of 85 percent. Speed readings were taken at an altitude of approximately 541 feet above sea level. The speeds are listed in the chart below and are in feet per second (fps). The FMJ is a bullet with a full metal jacket. JHP is a shear pit top. Tac-XP is a copper homogeneous hollow point ball. XP is a solid copper bullet made for "Extreme Penetration". ARX is a polymer / copper composite ball. The LWSC is a cast lead semi-cutter bullet. UHD is the ultimate Remington Home. HCL is a hard cast lead ball. Speeds are given in feet per second (fps). Ball weights are given in grains.

The Ruger performed exactly as I expected it to; without fault. Every round is fed, fired and released perfectly. It was easy enough to load the magazines to capacity, but with the last few rounds it becomes much easier to do it with a mag loader like the UpLULA. The American pistol is a full size pistol, but not too heavy or heavy. It fits well in the hand, and the grip modules can be quickly replaced if desired. Trigger pull was ready with a positive reset. The sights are easy to see well, and fortunately they are made of steel. The magazines are easily inserted and released freely when the ambidextrous mag lock is pressed. Disassembly for cleaning is quick, easy, and there is no need to pull the trigger to disassemble the weapon. The Ruger American pistol is an outstanding design, backed by some of the best customer service in the business.
