For nearly 75 years, Sturm, & Co., Inc. is a model of corporate and community responsibility. Our motto, "Arms Makers for Responsible Citizens®," reflects our commitment to these principles as we work hard to deliver high quality and innovative firearms. The Ruger LCR may look like an old revolver straight out of an old Western movie, but make no mistake, this is not your average revolver. Ruger released the Lightweight Compact Revolver (LCR) model in 2009 and since then it has become a concealed carry staple for many gun owners due to its durability, size and convenience. Revolvers are making a comeback, and once you see the LCR review, you'll understand why.
Most people use the LCR for concealment because of the ease of use. It is designed for use at short ranges, making ten meters the best for accuracy. That said, using the LCR for precision shooting is not the best use of your time. To be honest, the sights on this rifle aren't great.
However, you can certainly install your own sight on the weapon to greatly improve accuracy. The front sight is removable, so it wouldn't be too much of a hassle to install your own fiber optic sight or something else you'd prefer.
Crimson Trace Lg 415 Laser Grips For Ruger Lcr/x, Grips
There's a reason revolvers are still relevant in a world full of semi-automatics. They are extremely durable. At least the LCR is good for thousands of rounds. It is built to be used, and is used often. If you don't shoot often, you'll be able to use this one for ten years, maybe more.
The grip on this gun is great. It has a 'Hogue Tamer Monogrip', which is a rubber grip that allows the user to get a strong, firm grip on the gun. This is exactly what you want from a gun that will be used primarily for concealed carry and concealment. If anything, be careful how careful you are with the grip - it's not a good idea to have the grip on clothes while you're taking them off.
The trigger on this one has a slight "click" before it resets. You must fully release the trigger and skip a live round to fire another round. The gun is a little difficult to fire quickly if you are not used to it, but that shouldn't be a deal breaker for you as that is not what this gun is about. It's just a minor interruption that you'll get used to after a few laps.
Revolvers do not accept magazines, so you must reload the gun by inserting each bullet one at a time. It's a little boring, but it's not the gun you should bring as your primary weapon. The difficulty of reloading is what makes the gun great as a bloodhound or backup gun.
Ruger Lcr .38 Special Double Action Revolver
The LCR weighs 13.5 ounces, meaning "Light" in its name. It is only 6.5 inches long and 4.5 inches high. The gun is light mainly because it is made of aluminum and polymer. The LCR has a minimalist feel. It's not flashy or anything, but it does what it's meant to do. Additionally, the barrel makes up 1.87 inches of the firearm.
The LCR has a bit of kick for a gun its size, so you'll want to keep that in mind when using it. That said, Ruger took this into account when installing the Hogue 'Tamer Monogrip' on the handle. There's definitely a kick, but it's nothing to worry about. Many new shooters also like this one because of the ease of use. This is part of what makes this revolver so great for concealed carry and concealment.
Whether you decide to go with the LCR or the LCRx (which is three inches larger), this rifle will cost $579. It's a bit more expensive than your average revolver, but it's a high-end firearm with a proven track record. There's a reason you have to pay for it. If you're looking for a pocket gun but don't want to shell out the dough, check out the S&W 380.
This gun is one of the best at what it does. I wouldn't buy it for better marksmanship or as a centerpiece for a hunting trip, but for concealed carry or a concealed/backup gun I wouldn't recommend anything else. Sure, there are other options like the Colt King Cobra or the aforementioned S&W 380, but the LCR is simply a durable, high-quality rifle. If you love Ruger products through and through, you can use the LCR for concealed carry and save the GP100 for home defense.
